Part scientist and part sugar fairy, is how pastry chef and business owner Shannon Pridgen of Heavenly Crumbs boutique bakery describes herself. "It's like magic we take flour, sugar, butter and our imagination and we can create the most incredible things", says Shannon.
Although I always loved sweets I never thought of being a baker until a friend said they loved to decorate cakes. Until then I was studying to be a psychologist. I had always baked but that conversations changed everything.
In 2006, Heavenly Crumbs opened its combination retail bakery and custom cake shop in BedStuy, Brooklyn. Since its opening Heavenly Crumbs cakes have been featured in Fox News, Modern Bride, Glamour Magazine, Paper Magazine, As The World Turns, Whose Wedding Is It Anyway, David's Bridal. Also created cakes for Harpo Productions, Estee Lauder, Wendy Williams, Levolor, Ben and Jerry's, Essence Magazine, Ann Taylor Loft to Brooklyn's local politicians.
